Welcome to Tiamo Resort, an exclusive slice of paradise in the heart of the Caribbean. Situated on South Andros Island in the Out Islands of the Bahamas, a visit to Tiamo is unlike any other experience. Taking a vacation here enables you to get away from it all as the lodge is accessible only by boat or seaplane.
Tiamo Resort has a private beach and there are only 10 villas and the Bird’s Nest: a luxury three-bedroom villa that combines sophistication with comfort and which has an amazing panoramic view across the island and out to sea. The villas exude great charm and are built in a traditional Caribbean style.
Each villa allows you to indulge in tropical surroundings with lush green palm trees with direct access to the pristine beach with its clearest turquoise waters. Most villas also have a private veranda and pool and the beachside cottages are the epitome of elegance and allow you to bask in the best of the Bahamas, right on your doorstep.
At the centre of the resort is the Great Room, with fabulous sea views, which provides a chance to enjoy meals, a relaxing drink or socialise. Once you step out of your beach villa in the morning, you will find everything you need to enjoy your vacation in comfort and style, right on the water. Start your day by heading to the Great Room for a healthy breakfast before spending your time relaxing on the resort’s veranda or in a hammock.
Then head to one of the Caribbean’s best beaches for a gentle swim. Our luxury eco-resort is an idyllic place for a truly amazing escape! You can even take one of Tiamo Resort’s fleet of boats and enjoy a leisurely sail around the calm, sheltered South Bite waters or try some snorkelling at The Crack, a crevice in the limestone seabed with numerous sea creatures. There are also guided nature tours to see iguanas, sea birds and wild orchids. And if you need some distraction from your hectic schedule of pure relaxation, take a browse of the collection of volumes in the island’s library or peruse the interesting local items on display in the shop for something special to bring home with you.
Should you wish, you can even take a launch to Tiamo’s private cove, further along the coast. Here you can relax in complete seclusion in the day or the evening. Have a picnic lunch or dinner and enjoy the feeling of being truly alone and at one with nature. When you’re ready to return to the resort, simply call up the launch and we’ll be right there to collect you. This is sheer barefoot luxury and a must for honeymooners.
If you spend your day at the beach, you will find a classic Caribbean beach – the Bahamas at its best. The white of Tiamo’s long private expanse of sand sits in beautiful contrast to the surrounding shades of tropical green palms and vivid Caribbean blue. Take a stroll, then find a secluded spot to settle in – not a difficult task with around 20 guests staying at the resort at any one time. Then put up a shade and stretch out on one of our comfy loungers or flop into one of the relaxing hammocks.
If you’re thirsty or hungry, simply raise a flag and our beach butler will attend to your requirements. Your next challenge is to see how long you can resist the lure of taking a dip in the warm shallows that lap up against the shore. The clear waters of the South Bite are perfect for swimming in and chances are that the only other presence in your vicinity of the water will be a colourful anemone or passing angelfish.
With crystal clear waters and the world’s third-largest barrier reef right on our doorstep, Tiamo also offers some fantastic diving thanks to the on-site PADI Dive Centre. The reef runs parallel to the coast of Andros for 225km and access to its edge is only a 10-minute boat ride from our resort. The eastern side of the reef wall spectacularly drops down about 9656km into the Tongue of the Ocean between Andros and Nassau and some of the marine life that divers will encounter is simply breath-taking.
The waters of these parts of the Bahamas have featured in some famous movies too, including a number of films in the James Bond series, and evidence of these shoots can be found underwater in the form of wrecks formed from props. You can explore all of this under the careful guidance of the fully qualified PADI dive master, who will help you get the most out of your time in the amazing underwater world of the Bahamas.
Nature is a big part of the attraction of Tiamo and as such we have made every effort to ensure our resort is a part of nature too. At Tiamo, we combine luxury living with responsible environmental design. Our 11 villas blend tastefully into their natural surroundings, taking advantage of the indigenous tropical vegetation to provide each one with a very private setting.
The properties are all built from sustainable pine wood and are elevated on stilts to benefit from natural cooling and ventilation. Roofing is made from thatch that helps to insulate buildings and keep temperatures pleasant. Any external ingredients we bring in, wherever possible, are locally sourced and organic and we operate in harmony with the residents of South Andros too. All of this combines to give you a luxury Caribbean experience while leaving a minimal footprint.
